Import/Export/Copy Course Components
Once your course content is ready, you must move it from your Reference Course to your Official Course by importing or copying it.
What is Import/Export/Copy Components?
Import/Export/Copy Components allow you to move, share, and reuse materials between courses, Learning Management Systems, and from content vendors. Pick and choose what material to move, or select it all, when you Import, Export, or Copy. This means that you are not restricted to copying an entire course to be able to reuse a quiz or assignment in another course. Rather, you can select to copy the specific quiz and its associated files to another course. This feature is not only available for quizzes, but other course components such as Content Topics, Assignments, Discussion topics, and more.
Word of caution, unlike OWL Sakai, there is no option to OVERRIDE imported components.
This means that if you import course components with names that already exist in the course, or you import multiple components with the same name, duplicate names appear; they are not overwritten. For example, if your course contains a Discussion Topic called Exam Review and you import a course package that contains a Discussion Topic called Exam Review, your course will contain two topics called Exam Review.
Why would I Copy materials?
- Reuse materials from course to course by copying them
- Easily share materials with colleagues
- Standardize materials by copying from a template course
Note: User contributions, such as discussion participation and assignment submissions, will not move during the Import/Export/Copy Components process.
How to copy components into a course
- Under Manage Course, choose Course Admin and navigate to “Import/Export/Copy Components”
- In the destination course click “Search for offering”
- Search for the course you want to copy from
- Select the course to copy
- Click “Add selected”
- Click “Copy all components”
- Your copy will begin, and you will receive an alert when it is finished
- Once complete you can copy more material, view content, or review and manage dates
